Kucuk, Kosugi, Named to NSCAA 2012 Men’s College Division Scholar All-East Region
NEW YORK – The awards for the City College of New York Beavers continue to pile up as senior Tayfun Kucuk and junior Kazuhide Kosugi were named to 2012 Men's College Division Scholar All-East Region as voted on by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America earlier this month.
Kucuk is an english major and boasts a 3.58 GPA while Kosugi carries a 3.67 GPA and will graduate with an art major in May of 2013. Kucuk and Kosugi were the only City University of New York Athletic Conference athletes to earn the all-East region honor.
Kucuk entered the season as the only two-time captain for head coach Roberto Ignaccolo's team. His leadership was a vital point to the turnaround season for CCNY as the senior posted a 5-5-1 record with two shutouts after beginning the season with a 0-3 mark.
Earlier this season, he was named a second team CUNYAC/Applebee's Men's Soccer All-Star after recording two shutouts. His performance in the CUNYAC Playoffs proved just how much of an impact he brings to the soccer field. He made 14 saves in the quarterfinals matchup against Lehman College, including two game-saving saves and was successful in his lone penalty kick attempt as the third seeded Beavers defeated the Lightning in penalty kicks to advance to the semifinals.
Kucuk was second on the Beavers with five assists, including a three-assist performance in a season-ending 4-0 victory over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn).
Kosugi ended the season with two goals and four assists and scored the lone goal in the CUNYAC quarterfinals matchup vs. Lehman College that ultimately went into shootouts.
