Oxy soccer teams earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards
KANSAS CITY — The Occidental College men's and women's soccer teams proved they're as much brains as brawn once again this year.
Both Tigers squads earned 2011-12 National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Awards for maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average as a group.
Oxy is the only SCIAC school to have both its men's and women's teams recognized in each of the last two years. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps had both teams on the list this year.
"It is a tremendous achievement for both teams to be recognized by the NSCAA two years in a row for their commitment to academic excellence," Occidental women's soccer coach Colm McFeely said. "Our teams are full of talented, committed, true student-athletes who work hard to get the balance right and I could not be more proud of them."
Among the 741 college soccer teams on the list, 189 had their men's and women's program recognized.
