Gibboney set to take over men's soccer program
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After eight years as an assistant coach
at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels, Nate Gibboney
is set to become the ninth head coach in the history of the
Lycoming College men's soccer program, athletic director Mike Clark
announced on Tuesday, March 5.
He replaces Doug Stahl, who compiled a record of 85-137-12 in 13 seasons at the helm, a .389 winning percentage. The Warriors were 4-10-2 last season.
"We are very excited that Nate Gibboney will lead our men's
soccer program," Clark said. "Nate is someone who impressed from
the start of this process and continued to do so throughout. He has
a proven ability to recruit high-quality student-athletes and his
work ethic is going to help ensure that the program will continue
to build on its tradition and legacy."
"I would like to thank president [James] Douthat, Mike Clark and
the rest of the Lycoming College community for this tremendous
opportunity," Gibboney said. "I couldn't be more excited about
working at a place like Lycoming, which holds athletics and
academics to such a high standard. The men's soccer program has
experienced some great seasons and I look forward to being a part
of the same success. I can't wait to get started."
Gibboney comes to Lycoming after spending the last three years as
an assistant coach at Lafayette College. With the Leopards,
Gibboney assisted the head coach in all aspects of coaching and
program administration and was actively involved in recruiting. He
helped the team to three winning seasons, culminating the run when
the team won the 2012 Patriot League title and earned a bid to the
NCAA Tournament.
While at Lafayette, he coached seven All-Patriot League selections
and three all-region picks. During each of his three seasons at the
school, the Leopards earned NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings
and the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
Prior to Lafayette, Gibboney served a three-year stint as an
assistant coach at Vassar College. He also acted as interim head
coach of the Brewers in the spring of 2009. That fall, the Vassar
coaching staff was recognized as the Liberty League co-Coaching
Staff of the Year after leading a squad that went 9-6-1 - the
team's best record in six seasons - and featured the Brewers' first
Liberty League Player of the Year.
Prior to his three years at Vassar, Gibboney served as the
assistant coach at Westminster (Pa.) in 2005-06, where he helped
the team win the 2006 Presidents' Athletic Conference title. He
coached five all-conference selections and one all-region pick
during his career with the Titans.
Gibboney was a four-year starter and two-year captain at
Susquehanna University, where he helped the Crusaders reach the
postseason for the first time in school history in 2003. Gibboney
was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior and
he was a First Team All-Commonwealth Conference selection.
Gibboney earned a Bachelor of Science in business
administration from Susquehanna in 2005 and a Master of Education
degree from Westminster in 2007.
Gibboney holds Advanced National, National, Advanced Regional,
Regional and Goalkeeping Coaching Licenses and is a certified PIAA
soccer official. He also has extensive experience in club soccer,
serving as the head coach of the North Hunterdon Soccer Club U-17
girls' premier team for the past three years. He was also the
assistant coach of Middlepath FC U-17 and U-18 teams and the
trainer of the LaGrange U-17 club.
