Bard hires former Middlebury assistant to lead men's soccer program
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Andy McCabe as Head Men's Soccer Coach and Assistant Athletic Director.
McCabe comes to Bard from Middlebury College, where he was an assistant coach in charge of recruiting for eight seasons. During that time, the Panthers won two New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships, made three NCAA Div. III Elite 8 appearances, and won the NCAA Div. III National Championship in 2007. He left Middlebury earlier this year for a brief stint as the Head Coach at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vt.
"Bard is a first-rate school that deserves a first-rate soccer program," McCabe said. "It's mostly up to the students to grab that opportunity. Hopefully I'll provide the framework that will allow them to excel and achieve their goals."
In addition to his work at Middlebury College, McCabe has been head of the U17 Team in the Vermont Olympic Development Program, and a coach/administrator at the Vermont Soccer School. In 2008, he took the Far Post Soccer Club (U14-15 boys) on a competitive tour of the Netherlands.
"We're going to draw some good soccer players by building on the tradition that's already here," McCabe said. "The players can expect that I am going to work as hard as they do. I'm very excited to have been selected."
Bard moved to the prestigious and tough Liberty League two seasons ago, and the Raptors have yet to record a conference victory.
"The Liberty League is an excellent league," McCabe said, "and I appreciate the opportunity to help Bard find a new level of success within it."
In his role as Assistant Athletic Director, McCabe will be Scheduling Coordinator for Bard's 18 varsity programs, and he will also oversee and manage scheduling and maintenance for the athletic department's outdoor facilities.
