Johns Hopkins and Geneseo Battle to 2-2 Draw
MADISON, NJ – Senior Danny Reategui had his first career multi-goal game and junior Nick Cerrone made seven saves as Johns Hopkins battled SUNY Geneseo to a 2-2 draw in the opening game of the Drew Fall Festival Friday night. The Blue Jays open their season with an overtime contest for the third straight time.
Reategui scored the first goal of the season in the 35th minute to put the Blue Jays up 1-0. Junior Mark Spencer sent a well-placed cross into the box and Reategui one-timed into the right-side netting. Just over five minutes later, the score was knotted at one apiece. Rich Bellusci took an initial shot on goal that was blocked, but he was able to chip the rebound over the head of Cerrone to pull the Knights even in the 41st minute.
Nearly 11 minutes into the second half, Reategui broke the 1-1 tie when he beat Logan Calvey in a one-on-one situation and gave Hopkins a 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays' lead lasted a little longer this time, but once again it was Bellusci that would tie the score. In the 77th minute, Craig Shackner crossed the ball to Bellusci, who was wide open on the back post for the score.
Neither team could get the go-ahead goal and both Cerrone and Calvey needed to make saves late to preserve the draw. Cerrone finished with seven saves, while Calvey made three as the teams finished with 18 shots apiece.
Hopkins will take on host Drew in the final game of the festival on Saturday, August 31 at 5:30 pm. Live stats are available here.
