Chase notches two as Morrisville State men top Alfred 2-1

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Junior forward Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.) posted two scores to lead the Morrisville State College men's soccer team to a 2013 opening 2-1 victory over Alfred University Friday afternoon in Oswego.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half, before Chase notched an unassisted tally at the 52:29 mark.

He followed 13 minutes later with his second of the day, connecting on a feed from junior forward Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) at 65:47 for the two goal Mustang advantage.

Alfred made it a one goal game nearly four minutes later, but play from sophomore Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) and newcomer Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) in net, were able to keep the Saxons from posting the game tying score.

Larkin, who played 75 minutes in the box, made four stops in net for Morrisville State, before being relieved by Berglund who turned away one in the final 15.

The Mustangs (1-0-0) return to the field tomorrow, playing Houghton College on day two of the Oswego Tournament.
