Nebraska Wesleyan trips up Yellowjackets

More news about: UW-Superior men's team

For the second day in a row the Yellowjacket men's soccer team couldn't pull out a victory in regulation time. Unfortunately, they weren't able to pull out the win in overtime, either.

With just three seconds left in the first overtime period the Prairie Wolves were finally able to break through and take down the Yellowjackets by a 1-0 score.

Just like Saturday's contest, Sunday's match was an extremely event one, with the teams nearly even in all statistical categories. The Yellowjackets attempted 16 shots to Nebraska Wesleyan's 15, and both teams had eight shots on goal, but the Prairie Wolves notched the only one that counted.

Colby Twist got the ball and midfield, dribbled through defenders and went in on the breakaway, making no mistake as he scored his third goal of the season to give Nebraska Wesleyan the victory.

Junior Zach Harwerth (Anoka, Minn./Anoka), a transfer from Houston Baptist University, made his first start in goal for the Yellowjackets and finished with seven saves. He is 0-1-0 on the year. At the other end Turner Mead was perfect, making eight stops in the winning effort.

Brian Grand (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) and John Levenick (Champlin, Minn./Champlin) each had four shots on goal, while Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had three to lead the Yellowjackets offensively.

The Yellowjackets (1-3-1, 0-0-0 WIAC) return home on Wednesday, September 11, when they will host Hamline University at Duluth Public Schools Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
