Greensboro College Men's Soccer Plays to 0-0 Draw Against Lynchburg
The Greensboro College men's soccer team welcomed The Hornets of Lynchburg College to Pride Field, and played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night.
In the first half of play, the game went back and forth, with both teams displaying tough defense. The Pride's best chance of the opening period came in the 40th minute when Adam Smith headed a ball that sailed just high of the goal. With that near miss, things would go into the half all tied up at 0-0.
To start the second half, the Hornets came out with more intensity, applying the pressure on the Greensboro back line. Later in the half, The Pride were able to turn the tables on Lynchburg, earning two of their nine corner kicks. However, Greensboro was unable to tally a score, sending the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period, Greensboro controlled the play, with Jonathan Bennett providing the lone shot that glazed just high and right of frame.
In the second overtime period, Greensboro came out attacking on the offensive en. Shaun Watt turned the momentum in The Pride's favor when his shot in the 103rd minute hit square off of the Hornets cross bar. The overtime period would conclude with Greensboro outshooting Lynchburg 5-1.
Goalkeeper Logan Rohde made his first start in net for The Pride, earning the shutout tie with five saves. Kyle Giscombe attempted two shots for Greensboro, with both coming on goal.
With the tie, Greensboro College moves to 1-2-2 on the season, while the Hornets go to 1-2-1. The Greensboro College men's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, September 14th at 4:00pm, when they welcome St. Mary's (Md.) to Pride Field.
