New Paltz Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (0-3-2) played to a 1-1 draw with Skidmore College (3-2-1) on Saturday in the closing matchup of the Skidmore Classic.

Sophomore midfielder Joe Hughes (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) gave the Hawks a first-half lead with a 35-yard blast off a feed from junior defender Brian Spina (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central). Skidmore's Alex Hoder-Lee tied the game at the 52:17 mark, and then each team's defense held tight the rest of the way to force the 1-1 tie.

Junior goalkeeper Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) stopped five shots en route to the draw. Skidmore's Danny Ebenstein made six saves on his way to his first tie of the year.

The Hawks fired off 16 shots compared to Skidmore's 11 in Saturday's contest. Skidmore held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with a home contest against Western Connecticut State University. The action is set to kick off from Alumni Field at 4 p.m.
