Thomas More Shuts Out Rival Mount St. Joseph, 6-0

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team shutout across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph, 6-0, tonight (Tuesday, September 24, 2013) in a non-conference match at Schueler Field in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-2 and with the loss, the Lions fall to 1-9.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead into halftime when junior midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored off an assist from senior defender Cooper Hill (Fayetteville, Ohio/Fayetteville Perry) at the 42:11 mark.

Thomas More increased the lead to 2-0 at the 51:21 mark when freshman defender RJ Best (Lorton, Va./South County Secondary) scored unassisted. Hill found the back of the net off a cross from Best to extend the lead to 3-0 at 55:33. The Saints increased the lead to 4-0 when freshman midfielder Wheeler Blersch (Anderson Township, Ohio/Covington Catholic) scored off an assist from junior forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) at the 70:25 mark. Freshman forward Bryan Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) gave the Saints a 5-0 advantage when he scored at the72:07 mark off a cross from Troutman. Troutman scored at the 76:58 mark off an assist from junior defender Alex Dean (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) for the final score of 6-0.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) and senior Kevin Poe (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) combined for the shutout. Kees played the first 72:07 and recorded five saves and Poe played the final 17:53 and had one save.

Thomas More out-shot the Lions, 20-13, including 13-6 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 5-2.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (September 28) when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play Marietta College at 3 p.m.
