Sowande’s Golden Goal Gives Wesley CAC Win Over St. Mary's

More news about: Wesley men's team

DOVER, Del. – Sophomore Oluwatobi Sowande scored both of Wesley College's goals, including the game-winner with 1:29 left in the second overtime to give the Wolverines men's soccer team a 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over St. Mary's on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium. Wesley is now 4-5-2 overall while the Seahawks fall to 3-5-2 while both teams stand at 1-1 in league play.

Sowande's golden goal came off a deflection by Danny Ramirez, who fought off pressure but managed to send the ball near the center of the field.  Sowande pursued the ball and then blasted it into the lower left corner to record his first career multi-goal game.

A Nigerian who later grew up in Laurel, Md., Sowande put the Wolverines on top earlier in the game at 58:16.  Freshman Will Mileski tossed in a throw which Sowande controlled and shot into the same lower left corner.

St. Mary's tied the score nearly 20 minutes later on a free kick after Wesley received a yellow card.

Mark Mattern made four saves for the Wolverines in the victory while Austin Brown took the loss for the Seahawks despite stopping five shots in 108:31.

Wesley returns to action on October 5 when it travels to take on Frostburg State in a 2 pm CAC start.
