Hamilton plays Amherst to 1-1 tie
Fred Porges '14 made a career-high 11 saves as Hamilton College
fought nationally third-ranked Amherst to a 1-1 overtime tie in
NESCAC men's soccer action Saturday at Hamilton's Love Field.
Porges made three saves in the final five minutes of play as the
Continentals remained unbeaten at home this fall and snapped a
two-game losing streak to the Lord Jeffs.
Dan Kraynak '15 scored Hamilton's goal early
in the second period, blasting a short shot past Amherst goalkeeper
Thomas Bull '16 after taking a pass fromGriffin Abbott
'16. The goal
was Kraynak's second of the season.
Abbott leads the team with three assists.
Amherst, who outshot Hamilton 23-10, tied the game with 15 minutes
left in regulation. A long throw-in from Christopher Martin '17 was
headed into the net by a diving Nico Pascual-Leone '16 for his
third goal of the year.
The Lord Jeffs' best overtime chance at the game-winning goal came
on a header by Julien Aoyama '14
that Porges tipped over the cross
bar. Porges also saved a shot by Andrew
Orozco '17 on the ensuing corner kick.
Bull made four saves in goal for Amherst.
The Continentals play a non-conference game Tuesday at Ithaca
College.
