"We played well today against a very good team," said Trinity Head Coach Mike Pilger. "Wheaton plays on a beautiful field, which plays to our advantage if we can pass the ball like we should. It was great to see after our worst effort of the year against Bowdoin on Saturday. The guys responded well to some criticism."
Bruno opened up the scoring in the 24th minute, cleaning up a cross that deflected towards the right side of the goal. Nearly seven minutes later, Bruno finished a beautiful chip pass from freshman Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.) in the middle of the box for a 2-0 advantage. In the 43rd minute, Johnston headed home a free kick by senior midfielder Alex Harvey (Lakeville, Conn.) from about 25-yards out to extend Trinity's lead to 3-0 before the break. Shea capped the scoring at 72:52, one-timing a pass from the right flank by junior midfielder Andrew McNair (Westport, Conn.) to help secure the Bantams first win in two tries against Wheaton in the all-time series. Last season, both squads played to a 2-2 double overtime draw in Connecticut. Trinity outshot Wheaton, 17-9, in the contest, while the Lyons held a slim 3-2 margin in corners.
