Hope Men's Soccer Tops Kalamazoo In 2OT
Junior Tarwo Konbloa scored 55 seconds into the second overtime to lift the Hope men's soccer team to a 3-2 win against Kalamazoo on Wednesday night.
The Flying Dutchmen maintained sole possession of second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with 12 points. They improved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Konbloa, a midfielder from Kentwood (East Kentwood HS), blasted the winning shot from 15 yards out after it deflected to him during a scrum near the front of the Kalamazoo goal. It was his second goal of the season.
Hope overcame a 2-1 deficit in the 76th minute after Kalamazoo scored twice in a span of 4 minutes, 21 seconds.
Senior Jason Muller of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) pulled the Flying Dutchmen even in the 79thminute. He launched in a free kick from 25 yards out for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Junior back Logan Sikkenga of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) broke a scoreless tie in the 63rdminute. He headed in a corner kick from six yards out, with Muller garnering the assist.
Hope goalie Ethan Beswick of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) made four saves.
