Mustangs and Falcons, Both Shorthanded, Play to 1-1 Draw

More news about: Mount Ida men's team

NEWTON, Mass. – A pair of first half penalty kicks was all the scoring in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer game between Mount Ida College and Albertus Magnus at Alumni Field.

The two teams, both reduced to ten men by the middle of the second half, played to a 1-1 draw in a game featured five cautions to go with the two dismissals.

Mount Ida stays at .500 for the year and in the confernece (5-5-2, 2-2-1), while the Falcons record now sits at 4-7-1 (1-3-1 GNAC).

Senior Carlos Rojas (Stamford, Conn.) notched his first goal of the season in the 44th minute, tying the game just ten minutes after the visitors had taken the lead.

Rojas and the Mustangs won their chance when a shot by junior Dishawn Miller (Bristol, Conn.) was judged to have been played by the hand of a Falcon's defender inside of the penalty box.

Senior Ross Sulesk (Amesbury, Mass.) connected in the 34th minute for his third goal of the season after a take-down just at the inside edge of the box by Mount Ida's defense.

Senior Joe Casey (Merrimack, Mass.) got his second consecutive start in goal, and made four saves for the Mustang.

Senior Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) made seven stops for the visitors, as Mount Ida held a 26-15 edge in shots and a slim 11-9 margin in corner kicks.

Mustang senior Tim Gil (Lowell, Mass.) had two shots off the bench, including a scoring chance in the 77th minute, which he ripped just wide of the net from a close but crowded range.

Suleski had three shots on goal for Albertus Magnus, while both of their other attemps on target came from senior Dan Dwyer (Hamden, Conn.).

Mount Ida has just a day off before they return to action on their home field, as they welcome in Johnson & Wales as part of a Columbus Day doubleheader. The Mustangs and Wildcats will kick off at 2:00 pm on Monday.

The Falcons have a Monday game as well, as they travel back North to play Suffolk at 5:00 pm.
