Plummer Records Hat Trick in Saints' 4-1 Win at Saint Vincent
(LATROBE, Pa.) - Thomas More College junior midfielder Jake Plummer (North Olmsted, Ohio/Heart of Jesus Christ-Corpus Christi) recorded a hat trick and the Thomas More men's soccer team defeated Saint Vincent College, 4-1, today (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Bearcat Field in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-2 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 3-0. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the PAC.
Saint Vincent took an early 1-0 lead when Christian Trueax scored at the 11:42 mark. Plummer tied the match at 1-1 for the Saints at the 14:29 mark when he scored off a double assist from freshman forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and junior forward Jonah Ritter (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll). Plummer scored on a penalty kick at the 26:03 mark to give the Saints a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Thomas More increased the lead to 3-1 at the 49:31 mark when Runyon scored unassisted. Plummer completed his hat trick and closed at the scoring at the 60:20 mark when he made a penalty kick for the final score of 4-1.
Junior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves, while allowing one goal.
Thomas More out-shot the Bearcats, 19-11, including 8-4 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 4-2.
The Saints return to the pitch on Saturday (October 19) when they host Waynesburg University at 2:30 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
