Hornets Defeat EMU 2-0 on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team competed against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday for Homecoming and Senior Day and won 2-0.

The Hornets took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when sophomore Zack Miller took advantage of a free kick from 30 yards out and fired in a goal past the EMU keeper at 40:37. Just over a minute later, LC increased its lead to 2-0 after freshman Brandon Webster scored a goal off of a rare double assist by junior Josh Hinkle and sophomore Daniel Jobrack.

In the second half, both teams clamped down on defense, allowing no goals. The Royals had a chance to tighten the gap late in the second half when Joao Downs shot a free kick just outside the box, but could not capitalize.

Senior Jonathan Sheffield had a good outing on Senior Day in goal for the Hornets, recording five saves and allowing no goals. Andrew Yoder saved eight balls for Eastern Mennonite (3-12/1-7 ODAC). Lynchburg held a slight advantage in shots 14-12.

The Hornet men (7-5-2/5-2-1) will be back in action on Wednesday, October 23 at home again when they will face off against Randolph College in ODAC play.
