Wheaton (Ill.) men rally to defeat Illinois Wesleyan, 2-1
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder men's soccer team defeated conference foe Illinois Wesleyan, 2-1 on Saturday night at Joe Bean Stadium. Tonight's match was Wheaton's third contest in four days.
Wheaton is now 12-3-1 in the year and has posted an 8-0-1 record in its last eight games. Wheaton is now 3-0-1 in CCIW play. The Thunder will travel to Augustana on October 23 for match with the Vikings. Illinois Wesleyan falls to 8-6-2 on the year, with a 2-2-0 CCIW record.
Illinois Wesleyan's John Pisani scored just six minutes into the match to give the Titans the early 1-0 lead. Eric Gilbert contributed an assist to Pisani's goal. A few minutes later, senior Josh Clark blasted in a goal from 25 yards out to tie the match at 1-1 at 8:28 mark of the contest. Wheaton out-shot the Titans 17-10 in the first half, and two teams were tied 1-1 at halftime.
Babb made two saves in the Wheaton goal tonight, with one goal allowed in 90 minutes. Illinois Wesleyan netminder Andrew Reed made five saves, with two goals allowed. Wheaton out-shot the Titans 26-17 in the match and the hosts owned a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
