Western New England's Domenick Villano Receives CCC Defensive Player of the Week Recognition
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Commonwealth Coast Conference Monday tabbed Western New England University goalkeeper Domenick Villano as the CCC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sunday. This marks the first time since Nov. 8, 2011, that Villano has received this award.
The senior co-captain out of Bronxville, N.Y. (Tuckahoe High School) yielded just one goal in 200 minutes of action during WNE's 0-1-1 week. In a 0-0 draw versus conference opponent Salve Regina on Wednesday, Villano made nine saves. Then three days later, he made six saves in a tough 1-0 loss to nationally No. 2-ranked Amherst on a goal scored with only 1 minute and 13 seconds remaining in the contest. He finished the week with an .812 save percentage while facing over 40 shots in two games.
Villano, who is a marketing communications/advertising major, currently ranks in the CCC top-4 in goals-against average (0.86), save percentage (.856) and saves (95) while also topping the conference in both wins (11) and shutouts (8).
