BROOKLINE, Mass. – The second-seed Newbury College men's soccer team advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Game with a 1-0 shut-out over Daniel Webster College, Friday afternoon. Senior midfielder Marc Daniel Jean-Jacques (Franklin Square, N.Y.) registered the game-winner eight minutes into the contest to led to lead the Nighthawks to their first championship game appearance.

In a physical, tight battle, scoring was hard to come by until Newbury senior midfielder Bryan Barrios (Central Falls, R.I.) gave the Nighthawks their first opportunity following a throw-in on the far-side and they took full advantage of it. In front of the far-side post, Jean-Jacques knocked a header past Eagle sophomore goalkeeper Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) into the upper right-hand corner to give Newbury the 1-0 lead.

Late in the first period Newbury first year midfielder German Canales (Lynn, Mass.) nearly gave the Nighthawks an insurance goal with less than a minute remaining in the half but Hamilton came up with a big save to keep the deficit at one goal going into the break.

With their backs against the wall, down by one, Daniel Webster came out firing at the start of the second half as they out-shot Newbury 11-4 in the second. Midway through the period, Eagle first year midfielder Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.) nearly tied up the contest after breaking away from the defender. However, Nighthawk first year goalkeeper Cody Nash-Gibney (South Burlington, Vt.) came up with on of his six saves of the contest as the defense held strong for the 1-0 victory.

Advancing to the NECC Championship Game, Newbury will wait to see if they will be traveling to one-seed Elms College or host fifth-seed Lesley University, Sunday afternoon for the 2013 Championship.
