La Roche Defeats Hilbert to Earn Trip to AMCC Semifinals

PITTSBURGH, PA – Ryan Luffey buried a shot in the 26th minute to break a 3-3 tie and send the Redhawks to their second straight AMCC Tournament Semifinal. La Roche will travel to Penn State Behrend on Wednesday at 12PM.

Chad Trozzi gave La Roche a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when he headed home a Ryan Luffey corner kick. Yousef Barcawi did a great job to earn the corner and the Redhawks were able to convert.

The visiting Hawks answered in the 29th minute but La Roche's Tyler Irwin deflected in a free kick from Luffey just five minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage. The Redhawks extended the lead to two on a Bryan Weimerskirch tally but Hilbert scored with seven minutes left in the half for a 3-2 score at intermission.

Hilbert struck first in the second half to tie it at 3-3 but Luffey's clutch goal came in the 26th minute to send La Roche to the AMCC Semifinals.

Luffey had a tremendous game and finished with a goal and 2 assists while Trozzi had a goal and assist. Weimerskirch and Irwin scored important goals and Barqawi contributed 2 assists. Goalkeeper Zach Shindehette made 3 saves and La Roche outshot Hilbert 21-10.

The men's soccer team will travel to Penn State Behrend for on Wednesday at noon for their AMCC Semifinal game.
