Thomas More Advances to PAC Championship Match on Shootout Over Geneva

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-seeded Thomas More College men's soccer team tied fourth-seeded Geneva College, 1-1, in a semifinal match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament today (Wednesday, November 6, 2013) at The Bank of Kentucky Field, but advanced to the PAC Championship match, 4-2, in a shootout.

With the tie, the Saints are 14-2-2 and will play either second-seeded Washington & Jefferson College or third-seeded Grove City College in the PAC championship match at 1 p.m. on Sunday (November 10) at The Bank of Kentucky Field. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes are 8-7-4.

Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 14:33 mark freshman forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) scored unassisted.

Geneva tied the match at 1-1 when Kyle Terrill scored off a Nate Musselman corner kick at the 15:11 mark.

Both teams couldn't find the back the net in the final 9:49 of regulation and overtime, while Thomas More out-shot Geneva 10-8, including 5-2 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 16-6.

The two teams were tied 1-1 in the first round of the shootout as Runyon and Geneva's Sean Bernardi both converted their penalty kick. Thomas More took a 2-1 advantage after the second round as senior defender Jacob Waldrop (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) made his kick and Geneva's John Shipley missed. Thomas More led 3-2 after the third round as senior midfielder Jack Little (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) and Geneva's Jeremy Troutman both made. Thomas More won the shootout in the fourth round as junior midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) made his penalty kick and Geneva's Alexander Rosenbaum missed.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 110 minutes in goal and allowed on goal.
