Knox Hands Lake Forest First MWC Loss
The Prairie Fire defeated Midwest Conference leader Lake Forest College 2-1 in the Homecoming and Senior Day match on October 19 at Jorge Prats Field.
The victory, the first against the Foresters since the 1999 season, keeps Knox (12-3, 5-2 MWC) among the top four teams in the conference standings and in the race for a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament next month.
Sophomore Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) gave the Prairie Fire a 1-0 lead with his conference-leading 16th goal of the season 12:07 into the match.
The Foresters (9-6, 6-1 MWC) tied the contest at 1-1 in the 48th minute.
Appropriately for Knox, senior Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth Comprehensive) – who was recognized along with fellow senior Dillon Kostka (Coal Valley, IL, Orion) before the match – made a penalty kick at 60:02 that put the Prairie Fire back on top for good.
Lake Forest held a 13-11 edge in total shots although Knox had a 6-4 advantage in the final 45:00.
Junior Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC) recorded four saves in goal and won for the 12th time for the Prairie Fire.
The win moves Knox in a tie for third place with St. Norbert College (6-7-2, 5-2 MWC) in the Midwest Conference standings behind Carroll University (9-4-1, 5-1 MWC) and Lake Forest.
