Kevin Parma of Western New England Named ECAC New England Defensive Player of the Year

CENTERVILLE, Mass.--Western New England University seniors Kevin Parma and Jake Bartnik have been named 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III Men's Soccer All-Stars, as Parma was tabbed the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and Bartnik earned a spot on the region's second team. The voting was completed by head coaches within the ECAC Division III New England men's soccer membership. The duo was among 10 honorees out of the Commonwealth Coast Conference to easily lead the region for the most selections from a single league.
Parma (Peconic, N.Y./Southold High School) helped the Golden Bears finish the season with a 16-5-3 record, a CCC championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Second Round. He was the driving force behind a WNE defense that allowed an average of just 0.88 goals per game and posted a CCC-best 12 shutouts. The team co-captain's previous postseason accolades include: National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire All-New England South Region First Team, Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division III First Team for the second consecutive year, CCC Defensive Player of the Year, New England Intercollegiate Soccer League All-Star Game invitee, and NSCAA College Division Men's Scholar All-East Region.
The accounting and finance major scored two goals to wrap up his four-year career that included eight goals and 20 points while starting in 80 of 91 games played.
Bartnik, of East Longmeadow (Mass.) High School, joined Parma on the All-CCC First Team after leading the Golden Bears with career highs of 12 goals, 24 points, eight game-winning tallies and 55 shots. He also made NSCAA/Continental Tire All-New England South Region as a second-team pick. The criminal justice major ranked second in the conference in game-winners, third in goals and fourth in total points. He ends his career as the Golden Bears' 13th all-time leading scorer with 62 points, including 27 goals for a seventh-place tie.
