Oglethorpe's Williamson Named to Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-South Region First Team
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named Oglethorpe senior forward Nick Williamson to the 2013 NSCAA College Division Men's Scholar All-South Region First Team this week, capping off an outstanding senior year for the Pensacola, Fla., native.
Williamson received a similar honor from the College Sports Information Directors of America in late October, as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for NCAA Division III District 5, which encompasses Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. However, the nominees for that honor were drawn from only Division III, whereas nominees for the NSCAA College Division Scholar All-Region teams were drawn from Divisions II and III, as well as the NAIA.
Williamson has been named to two conference academic honor rolls, once in 2011 with the SCAC and again in 2012 with the SAA. He is an accounting major and currently holds a 3.58 cumulative GPA.
The Stormy Petrel forward took home SAA Offensive Player of the Year honors and was named to the All-SAA First Team in mid-November. He finished atop the league leaderboard in goals, netting a total of 11 on the season. He saved his best game for the last game of the season, recording a hat trick in the SAA Championship final against Millsaps, leading his team to a 3-1 win and its first SAA championship. Williamson tied for second in the league in points with 23, and scored four game-winning goals over the course of the season, including in the SAA Championship semifinals and final. He was named the SAA Tournament MVP for his efforts.
Williamson and the rest of the 2013 senior class led the Petrels to an 11-3-3 season and end their careers as the most decorated class in Oglethorpe men's soccer history. The group won the program's first two conference titles over a three-year span and secured its first NCAA Tournament bid in 2011. They compiled a 45-23-4 record over their four years with the Stormy Petrels for a .653 winning percentage, the best mark by a group of seniors in program history.
