Brian Wall Steps Down as Men's Soccer Head Coach

More news about: Hood men's team

FREDERICK, Md. – Brian Wall, the only coach in the program's history, announced his resignation as Hood College's men's soccer coach.

"I am truly thankful for the opportunity Hood College provided me over the past 11 years," Wall said. "Being given the opportunity to lead and start a collegiate soccer program at the age of 26 was an excellent professional experience which I will be forever grateful for.

"This was a difficult decision for me to make," he continued. "But it will provide me the opportunity to focus more attention on the most important priority in my life - my family."

"We truly appreciate Brian's efforts in building our men's soccer program from the beginning," noted Director of Athletics Tom Dickman. "Hood College wishes him nothing but the best."

After spending a year recruiting, Wall guided the Blazers onto the pitch for their inaugural season in 2004. While the rookie program won just one match, it recorded the third-best turnaround in Division III in its second season as the team went 8-4-1 during year two. His 2006 squad won eight matches, as well. This past season, he had the Blazers in the hunt for a bid to the conference playoffs until the season's final match.

Wall coached the team from its beginning as an independent program, through its membership in the Capital Athletic Conference, and most recently during the transition to the Commonwealth Conference. Over the years, his teams produced seven all-conference honorees on the field. In the classroom, he coached 40 conference academic honor roll members, two CoSIDA Academic All-District picks, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. His Blazers were also heavily involved in the Golden Mile Program, helping underprivileged youth play soccer.

"Hood College should be very excited about the future of the men's soccer team," observed Wall. "I wish the future staff, the team, and all of our athletic programs continued success in the years to come."

Wall, who played collegiately at Mount St. Mary's and is a member of its athletic hall of fame, has served as a business technology teacher at Damascus since 2001.
