Spartan Shorts: The Class of 2016 features midfielders Drew Vergonet (Elkhart, Ind.) and Julio Luevano (Aguascalientes, Mexico). Luevano, an exercise science and fitness major, is married to Danielle and is the father of Micaela, Isabela and Cesar Antonio. "Julio's been a three-year letter winner, captain and starter on the team having played as a center back, center mid, striker and keeper," Coach Dave Good said. "His versatility and willingness to play anywhere he is needed has been a valuable asset.  We all have been inspired by his life story, his discipline, and motivation to pursue his dream to get his college degree under challenging circumstances.  We thank his family for sharing him with us." Vergonet, a triple major in business management, marketing and sales, is the son of Janine McCuen. "Drew has been a three year letter winner (having sat out his junior year), and a regular starter on the team who has played as a center back and a midfielder," Good noted. "He's been a player with great passion and enthusiasm for the game, contributing good energy, physical defensive play, a heading presence, and passing ability to the team.  This year, he's been one of our captains providing leadership both as a starter and coming off the bench." … MU (4-7-4 overall, 1-3-2 HCAC) and conference rival Anderson University battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie to begin their week. The Spartans and Ravens combined for nearly 60 shot attempts and kept Manchester University sophomore goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) and AU keeper Nate Wadley on the move throughout both halves in regulation and in both overtime sessions. However, when the dust settled at SSF, the scoreboard read 1-1. The freshman tandem of midfielder Samuel Tetteh-Quarsie (Accra, Ghana) and fellow midfielder Ben Niederhelman (Ross, Ohio) worked together for the Black and Gold's game-tying tally with Niederhelman picking up his first collegiate assist to aid in Tetteh-Quarsie's second score.

On The Road: MU's men and women face separate trips to Franklin College Tuesday, Oct. 27, (women) and Wednesday, Oct. 28, (men) beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and then go to Mt. St. Joseph University Saturday, Oct. 31, for 6 and 8 p.m. starts with the women's contest first.
