Husmann Named WPU Head Men’s Soccer Coach
RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University Athletics Department is pleased to announce that Caleb Husmann has been named the new head coach of the Pacers' third-year men's soccer program. Husmann currently serves as an adjunct professor of political science at WPU and returns to the pitch a year removed from a three-year stint as an assistant with the Division I Bengals of Idaho State University.
"We are excited about the addition of Caleb Husmann as our new head men's soccer coach," said WPU Athletics Director Kelly Johnson. "He brings both NCAA playing and coaching experience to the program, which are very important as we continue building our young men's soccer program in the very competitive USA South Athletic Conference."
In 2012 Husmann helped lead the Bengals to the NCAA Tournament with Big Sky regular season and tournament championships. That season, Husmann worked with co-Offensive Big Sky MVP and First Team All-Conference selection Amanda Ellsworth as well as fellow all-conference honorees Rachel Strawn, Allyson Stainbrook, Anna Pingree, Vanessa Cabilan and Taylor McBride.
Prior to his time at Idaho State, Husmann was a four-year collegiate starter at West Virginia Wesleyan and Condordia College (in Minnesota) where he was named the team captain as a senior. After college, Husmann had trials with two USL teams (Harrisburg and Cleveland). He played one season with a UNI semi-professional team in New South Wales, Australia in 2006.
Husmann also held a residence at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida from 1998-1999 and in 2002. He was a Minnesota ODP from 1997-2003. He coached the Rochester Youth Soccer and Rochester Premier teams in Minnesota for two years as well.
Husmann earned his bachelor's degree in political science in 2007 from Concordia College. He earned a master's degree in political science from Miami University in 2009. He earned his doctorate in political science from Idaho State in 2011.
"I am so thrilled with the opportunity that has been afforded to me by the William Peace University Athletic Department," Husmann said. "It's my goal to make the WPU men's soccer team a success both on and off the field."
Husmann takes over a Pacers' squad that went 3-13 last season under the direction of Zane Hill. WPU gets the 2015 season underway September 3 on the road against Grace College, with their home opener at WakeMed Soccer Park coming two days later against Bob Jones University.
