More news about: Thomas More men's team

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Thomas More College President David A. Armstrong, J.D. and Athletic Director Terry Connor have named Eric Busener as the new head men's soccer coach.
Busener, who has been an assistant coach on the Thomas More men's and women's soccer staffs the past three seasons, replaces Jeff Cummings, who asked to concentrate on the role as head women's soccer coach.

"Eric, being an alum and current assistant, understands where the program has been and where it is now gives him a wonderful prospective and makes him the perfect fit for the men's program at Thomas More," said Cummings.  "He has been a huge part of the program's success on and off the field since rejoining us three years ago.  I look forward to watching him take the program and building on the traditions that have been established!"

Busener just completed his third year of his second stint as an assistant to the Saints' men's and women's soccer teams.  He helped lead the two teams to a combined record of 108-15-11 and six Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships and six NCAA Tournament appearances, capped by an Elite 8 appearance by the women's team this past season and school record for most wins in a season by both teams in 2014.

Between his two stints with the Saints, Busener served assistant men's soccer coach at Northern Kentucky University from 2008-2011.  The Norse went 65-16-9 during his time at Northern Kentucky and the team went to four NCAA Division II Tournament, where it was national semifinalists in 2008 and National Champions in 2010.

"I am extremely excited to take over the men's soccer program at Thomas More College," explained Busener.  "Being an alum of TMC, it is truly an honor and privilege to not only carry on the traditions of the program, but continue to build for the future.  We have a great group of young men as a foundation, and a fantastic staff intact. I want to thank Coach Jeff Cummings, Athletic Director Terry Connor, and President David Armstrong for this great opportunity. I look forward to working hard and continuing the success of our student athletes on the field and in the classroom."

Busener is a 2006 graduate of Thomas More and was a two-year Most Valuable Player at Thomas More, while serving as a two-year team captain and as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  He has worked with the Northern Kentucky Soccer Academy since 2007 and has been the assistant director of coaching and head trainer since 2010.
