Dan Monteiro Scores Four in, 4-2, Win Over Plymouth State

Providence, R.I.--Senior midfielder Dan Monteiro (Pawtucket, RI) scored all four goals to propel the Rhode Island College men's soccer team to a 4-2 victory against Plymouth State in a Little East Conference contest played at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. The win extends the Anchormen's unbeaten streak to eight games, dating back to a 3-0 win over Roger Williams on Sept. 28. |

Plymouth State (4-8-2, 1-5-0 LEC) took the early lead when sophomore midfielder Micah Peterson (Fremont, NH) connected on a throw-in to freshman forward Jerry Randolph (Malmo, Sweden). Randolph then buried a shot from the top of the box at the 14:12 mark to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead. Rhode Island College (12-3-1, 4-1-1 LEC) answered in the 20thminute as Monteiro scored his first goal of the game, blasting in a shot off the bottom of the crossbar following a crossing pass into the box from junior midfielder Ty Catunto (New Bedford, MA) to knot the game at 1-1. |

RIC took the 2-1 lead at the 33:16 mark as Monteiro tallied his second goal of the afternoon, scoring an unassisted goal after a turnover from 25 yards out. The visiting Panthers responded in the 41st minute when freshman midfielderColin Jerome (Lansdale, PA) sent a pass from 40 yards out into the box. Graduate student forward Adam Edmunds (Wilton, NH) outran the defense then slid in a shot just inside the far post to tie the score at 2-2. RIC held the 12-7 advantage in shots for the stanza. |

Monteiro ended the deadlock at the 67:19 mark as he got the hat trick on the afternoon, tallying an unassisted goal when he collected a loose ball in the box and slid a shot into the back of the net. Monteiro then added an insurance goal for the Anchorwomen in the 76th minute, scoring on a shot from 20 yards out after a pass from sophomore midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI) to cap off the scoring for the day and give RIC the 4-2 victory. |

RIC senior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) made two saves in the victory, while PSU senior Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) notched five stops in the setback. |
