Mattos Nets Four Goals in 5-0 Win Over Suffolk
BOSTON, Mass. – Junior forward Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored a program-record four goals – all in the second half – to help Saint Joseph's College (8-0-1, 4-0-1 GNAC) defeat Suffolk University (4-5-0, 1-4-0 GNAC), 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference(GNAC) action on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks took a 1-0 lead – off a Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) goal - into the second set of 45 minutes and Mattos turned on the engine from there. The junior captain doubled the SJC lead off a Jackson Taylor (Gorham, Maine) pass at the 53:01 mark and went on to score three times in a matter of two minutes and 26 seconds (84:53, 86:06, 87:19) to close out the scoring.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's junior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) made a pair of saves in the victory while Suffolk netminder Scott Van Cleef registered 14 saves in a losing bid.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held considerable advantages in shots (26-3), shots on goal (19-2), and corner kicks (8-0) in the victory.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-4-1 in the history of the matchup with Suffolk University and has now defeated the Rams in four-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2015 season.
