Rowan Men's Soccer Claims Top Seed In NJAC Tournament With 8-2 Win Versus TCNJ
GLASSBORO, NJ – The sixth-ranked Rowan University men's soccer team defeated The College of New Jersey, 8-2 in the final New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game of the season on Wednesday.
The Profs (16-2-1) finish the NJAC slate with an 8-0-1 record and will be the top seed in the conference tournament. They will host the winner of the first-round contest between fourth-seeded Kean University and the fifth seed Stockton University in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The Lions end the year at 6-9-3 overall and 1-5-3 in the NJAC.
Rowan tallied two goals in the first half and broke the game open with six in the second period. Forward Shane Doherty (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) led the charge with two goals and two assists. Forward Matt Hendrickson (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) produced two goals and one assist while forward Zack Sakena (jr. Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) recorded one goal and one helper.
Midfielder Tyler Logar (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), forward Burak Ozdemir (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and back Collin Cardona (so. Elmer, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) each hit the back of the net one time. Backs Ramzi Habiby (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) and Ryan Logar (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), forward Blake Czajkowski (so. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) and midfielder Kevin Pereira (jr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) notched one assist apiece.
Forward Michael Kassak (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and midfielder Ethan Mueller (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored for TCNJ. Midfielder Peter Dresch (sr. Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph) registered an assist.
The Profs outshot the Lions, 31-8. Goalkeeper Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) stopped three shots in 74:40 and goalie Kyle Dennis (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played the final 15:20. TCNJ goalkeeper Daniel Mecadon (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) totaled 12 saves.
