Tommies, Maroons play to 0-0 tie in St. Paul

Defense ruled the day at St. Thomas' South Field Sunday for the non-conference men's soccer battle of nationally-rated teams. The No. 3-ranked Maroons of the University of Chicago and the No. 12-ranked Tommies played to a 0-0 tie through two overtimes in a hard-fought, physical contest.

Chicago (0-0-2) posted its second shutout of the season but found itself with its second scoreless tie. The Maroons and Macalester played a 0-0 game on Friday. Aaron Katsimpalis recorded his 16th career shutout.

St. Thomas (1-0-1) also recorded its second shutout of the season -- with junior Sean Teske playing all 110 minutes. That comes two days after the Purple posted a 1-0 home win over Washington (Mo.).

Coacj John Lowery's Tommies are 10-1-2 in their last 13 games dating back to last October. They play another nationally-ranked team next Friday when they travel to Iowa to face Luther College. Luther scored two one-goal wins over St. Thomas last season, the latter in the NCAA playoffs.
