Rutgers-Newark Downs Pfeiffer Men's Soccer, 3-2
Newark, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team gave up a pair of second half goals in a 3-2 loss at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon at Frederick Douglass Field.
The Falcons jumped ahead immediately as Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) scored less than four minutes in on a pass from Diego Moran (Charlotte, N.C) to stake the Falcons to a 1-0 lead.
The homestanding Scarlet Raiders drew event at 26:00 as Juwan Ash scored on an assist from Anthony Oliveira, making it 1-1, a score that would last through the halftime break.
RU-Newark would jump ahead 2-1 at the 51:36 mark when Joe Alba scored an unassisted goal. The lead swelled to 3-1 less than 10 minutes later when Oliviera scored from a Ryan Silva pass.
Pfeiffer's Jason Juarez Leyva (Monroe, N.C.) scored his first career goal for the Falcons at the 72:15 mark to pull to within 3-2. The Falcons would not be able to score the equalizer in the remaining 18 minutes, as they fall to 1-1 on the season.
Pfeiffer will return to play on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Noon when they will take on Drew University at Frederick Douglass Field.
