Oglethorpe's Ulises Rodriguez garners second SAA weekly award of season
Oglethorpe freshman goalkeeper Ulises Rodriguez earned SAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league office Monday after his performance in the Stormy Petrels' 4-0 win over Berry, a victory that secured the team's fifth straight outright SAA regular season title. It served as the second time Rodriguez received the honor in 2019.
Rodriguez recorded five saves over the course of the game, including four in the first half with the score either 0-0 or 1-0. He played in 81 minutes of what became the Petrels' fifth clean sheet of the season and picked up his eight win of the year. He currently sits in second place in the SAA with a 0.66 goals-against average and an .829 save percentage. He's also third in the conference with three clean sheets.
He and the rest of the top-seeded Petrels will host eighth-seeded Hendrix Saturday afternoon in the first round of the SAA playoffs at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. If they win that game, Oglethorpe will host the final two rounds of the SAA Men's Soccer Championship the following weekend.
