Seniors, Panthers win 3-0 over Santa Cruz in final home game
ORANGE, Calif. – After a slow start, the Chapman University women's soccer team scored three goals over the remaining 58 minutes of the game, en route to a 3-0 win over U.C. Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field on Senior Day.
Santa Cruz (1-12-2), who played Chapman tough earlier this season in a 1-0 double overtime loss, controlled the game early on as they put a pair of shots on goal in the first 30 minutes only to be turned away by sophomore GK Rissa Andersen. The Panthers' goalie had five saves.
Freshman F Val Sobol gave Chapman a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a breakaway off an assist from junior F Kate Lilly. The two connected again in the second half as the Panthers pushed their lead to 2-0. Sobol now is tied for the team lead with 11 goals while Lilly has a team-high four assists, three coming in the last two games.
In the 69th minute after a foul on a hand ball by Santa Cruz in the box, senior M Bridget Thomson scored off a penalty kick for Chapman's third and final goal. Thomson has five goals on the year with two coming in the last two games.
