Keeper Tandem Posts Another Shutout, Jordan and Devine Both Score
FREDERICK, Md.--The goalkeeping tandem of senior Rachelle Buhrman and junior Kirsten Cacciola combined for their second consecutive shutout and 15th since 2008 as the Hood College women's soccer team (2-0) earned a 2-0 nonconference win over La Roche College (0-2) Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Buhrman made the start in the net and turned aside six Redhawk shots in the first half. Cacciola came in for the second half and rejected the only La Roche attempt on target to complete the shutout.
Junior Jessica Devine and senior Cara Jordan scored for the second time in as many games to lift the Blazer offense. Devine's tally came off a feed from classmate Jamie Bingaman in the 35th minute while Jordan's unassisted score, the 30th of her Hood career, came in the 69th minute.
La Roche held a slim 14-13 edge in shots and was awarded 12 corner kicks to Hood's three. But in the end, the Blazers avenged a 10-1 setback at the hands of the Redhawks from the 2003 season, the only prior meeting between the two schools.
Hood is 2-0 for the first time in program history and looks to make it three in a row Tuesday. The Blazers hit the road for the first time Tuesday as the Shenandoah University Hornets welcome the Blazers to Winchester, Va., for a 7 p.m. nonconfernece clash.
