Hornets Hand Blazer Women First Setback of Fall, 1-0
WINCHESTER, Va.--The Hood College women's soccer team (2-1) dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to the Shenandoah University Hornets (2-2) Tuesday evening in nonconference action.
The Blazers and Hornets were engaged in a defensive struggle for the majority of the contest as both squads combined for just 18 total shots. Hood fired three shots on target in the second half, one by junior Jennifer Fischer and two by senior Cara Jordan, but all three were turned aside by keeper Brooke Strickler.
Forward Jessi Dennis scored the contest's only goal in the 68th minute off a feed from Jenna Kline to even Shenandoah's record at 2-2.
Senior Rachelle Buhrman took the tough loss, playing all 90 minutes in the net and making six saves.
Hood opens Capital Athletic Conference play Thursday hosting new league member Frostburg State University at 4:30 p.m.
