Edgewood College earns five postseason NAC awards
2010 All-Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer awards
MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team earned five individual awards when the Northern Athletics Conference announced their all-conference awards. Sophomores Elaine Gerry and Kristina Santaga were both named first team while fellow sophomore, Molly Haertle earned second team honors. Joining Haertle on the all-NAC second team was junior Brittany Drewiske, who also earned all-sportsmanship team recognition. Freshman Mackenzie Klingert garnered all-freshman team honors.
Gerry, a Prairie du Sac native, garnered first team all-NAC honors for the second time in her career. In 2008 she earned first team recognition as well as being named NAC Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. After missing 2009 due to injury, Gerry came back and led the Eagles in scoring this season with 16 goals and 38 points. Gerry recorded five multi-goal games, including a hat trick against Rockford College. She currently ranks fourth in career goals with 51 and fourth all-time in points with 113.
Playing her first season for the Eagles, Santaga finished second on the team with 13 goals in 2010. The Green Bay native led Edgewood College in assists, dishing out seven helpers this season. She also tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with Gerry, both netting five game-winners. Last spring, Santaga was named Track Athlete of the Meet at the NAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Another Green Bay native, Drewiske earned NAC honors for the first time in her career when she earned second team honors this season. Playing sweeper, Drewiske helped lead and Eagle defense that only allowed 14 goals all season. She was one of three Eagles to start all 21 games. Drewiske also earned all-sportsmanship team recognition this season.
Haertle, an Oconomowoc native and UW-Green Bay transfer earned second team all-NAC honors in her first season at Edgewood College. The sophomore was the third Eagle to reach double figures in goals and finished third on the team with 12 tallies. She also finished third on the team in assists, handing out five.
Klingert, a freshman from De Pere, was named to the all-NAC freshman team from after playing in 17 games, including 15 starts. Playing primarily defense, Klingert managed to score two goals and hand out two assists in her rookie campaign. She helped the Eagle defense that only allowed an average of seven shots per game.
Edgewood College finished the season with a 15-5-1 overall record and 9-3 mark in NAC play, landing third in the NAC standings. The Eagles topped No. 6 seed Marian University 2-1 in the NAC Tournament first round before falling to second seeded Dominican University 1-0 in overtime in the semifinals.
