Red Devil Women Clinch Top Seed With 3-0 Win
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer team clinched the top seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs with a 3-0 win over Gettysburg on Tuesday night. The Red Devils posted a school record 10th straight win, improving to 13-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference. The Devils also tied another school record with their 12th shutout of the season.
Sophomore Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) put the Devils on the board, ripping a free kick past the wall and just inside the near post with just 2:15 remaining in the first half.
First-year Samantha Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) tallied her sixth goal of the season, finishing a great pass from Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) in the 79th minute to give the Devils some much needed insurance. Sophomore Casey Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) also recorded an assist on the play with a great feed to Savoie into the penalty area.
Junior Genevieve Olson (Quincy, Mass./Thayer Academy) added an exclamation point, scoring on a long blast into the right corner of the goal with 8:17 remaining in the game to secure the win for the Red Devils.
Sophomore Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was tested heavily in the first half, but rose to the challenge, stopping seven shots and finishing with nine saves on the afternoon. Allie Rivera turned in a strong performance for the Bullets, making six saves on the day. Each team also saw a ball cleared off the line by a defender. Ashley Fields (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) came up big for the Red Devils while Heather Jaran (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) saw one of her in-swinging corners denied off the head of a Gettysburg defender on a beautifully played ball in the second half.
The Red Devils (13-2-1, 8-1) travel to Washington College for the regular season finale on Saturday. They will host the Centennial Conference final four on November 6th and 7th at Dickinson Park.
