Allgheny Women's Soccer Blanks Medaille, 3-0

More news about: Allegheny women's team

Sophomore sensation Alison Buzzard netted a pair of goals to lead Allegheny to a 3-0 victory over Medaille College at All High Stadium on Tuesday night. The Gators rebounded from a surprise upset over the weekend in piecing together another dominant outing.

The Mustangs found space to deliver five shots, the most against Allegheny in a game this season, while senior net minder Emily Karr totaled two saves for her busiest output of the young campaign. The Gators outshot Medaille, 20-5, including a 12-1 edge in the opening frame.

Buzzard authored what would prove to be the game-winning goal less than nine minutes into the action with a shot from the top of the 18. Sophomore Michelle Holcomb picked up her third helper of the year on the finish.

Medaille keeper Denay O'Connor kept the Mustangs in contention with a series of saves throughout the first half, including consecutive saves against Becca Crissman and Holcomb midway through the period.

The Gators were finally rewarded for the offensive assault as Buzzard buried her second goal of the game in the 65th minute. The second-year star put back a rebound off a shot by senior Georgia Frost, slotting the ball into the net from six yards out. In the 77th minute, Holcomb capped the scoring with her first goal of the season on a breakaway effort that was set up on a beautiful ball into space by central midfielder Ashley Lehr.

The Gators orchestrated a 9-0 advantage in corners, and dominated possession for the third consecutive tilt. Karr notched her second clean sheet of the year, while O'Connor shouldered the loss despite making seven saves.

Although the 2-1 record doesn't reflect Allegheny's strong play to open the season, the statistical advantage has been overwhelming. Through three dates, the Gators are outshooting the opposition, 72-9, while boasting a 30-0 difference on corners.
