Spartans Play to Scoreless Tie With No. 21 Denison
CLEVELAND, Ohio – At the conclusion of 110 minutes of action and two overtime periods, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with visiting and No. 21 nationally-ranked Denison University on Wednesday, September 7 at Case Field.
The Spartans move to 1-0-1 for the season and return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10, when they serve as co-hosts of the Case Western Reserve University/John Carroll University Classic. Case opens the weekend versus Grove City College (Pa.) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
With the tie, Denison sits at 1-1-1.
Junior midfielders Devyn Lee (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College) and Kendra Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) along with freshman midfielder Christine Straka (Prospect Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) tied for team-high honors for the Spartans with two shots apiece.
In net, Case senior Anna Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) faced 15 shots and posted a season-high eight saves for her second shutout in as many contests. Denison's Andrea Karl faced eight shots and recorded five saves.
For the game, Denison held a 15-8 advantage in shots, while the Spartans held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.
