The 24th-ranked University of Redlands women's soccer team endured a hard-fought battle against one of the elite programs in NCAA Division III, forcing a 1-1 draw with No. 6 Emory University (GA) in double overtime on Monday at Farquhar Field.

Senior forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR), a 2010 All-Region selection, provided the Bulldogs' offensive excitement at the 6:42 mark when she juked the oncoming Eagle defenders before slotting a tight, far-post netter.

Freshman forward Charlotte Butker (Decatur, GA) punched in the Eagles' lone score in the 25th minute when she connected on a short pass from freshman forward Emily Feldman (Highland Park, IL).

Despite both teams creating chances, neither squad converted the score, forcing two overtime periods.  But the game finished in a tie after 110 minutes of action.

The Redlands goalkeeper combination of junior Linzey Smith (Anaheim Hills, CA) and sophomore Sabrina Grandke-Bawa (Kirkland, WA) tallied seven saves on the evening, including a clutch stop by Grandke-Bawa in the waning seconds of the final period.

Both teams put pressure on the opposition's defense as Emory barely out-shot Redlands, 15-14.  However, the Bulldogs recorded nine second-half attempts.

Redlands (1-0-1) has not recorded a tie since the 2008 season, when the Maroon and Gray squared up with the Bears of Washington University (MO) in a scoreless decision back on Sept. 5 as well.

The Bulldogs take to Farquhar Field on Friday at 7 p.m. for an in-region match against Willamette University (OR).
