Ohio Wesleyan Defeats Wilmington
Junior midfielder Jessie Huschart scored the game-winning goal and junior midfielder Ally Miess and senior midfielder Belle Madison added insurance scores as Ohio Wesleyan blanked Wilmington, 3-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday in Wilmington.
The win is the third straight for the Bishops, Ohio Wesleyan's longest winning streak since Oct. 6-17, 2009, when the Bishops won 3 straight games -- all by scores of 2-1.
Huschart staked the Bishops to a 1-0 lead, hitting the upper left corner of the goal in the 12th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Zacharias preserved the lead with a save of a shot by Wilmington's Rachel Gutowski, and saw a potential game-tying shot by the Quakers' Sarah Watters hit the crossbar.
Zacharias was stellar during the second half, recording 8 saves during the period as Wilmington fired 17 shots at the Bishop goal in an effort to even the score.
Miess gave the Bishops some breathing room, scoring off a pass from sophomore midfielder Emily Sattler in the 85th minute, and Madison sealed the win with an unassisted goal with :39 to play.
Wilmington outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 24-17. Zacharias finished with 10 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, while Abbey Williamson had 4 saves for the Quakers.
