Lake Forest Stops Eureka, 7-0
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior goalkeeper Lindsay Coffey (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) made 28 saves, the second-most in a single match in program history, but visiting Lake Forest overwhelmed the Red Devils with four goals in the first half and eventually earned a 7-0 non-conference victory, Saturday afternoon at Traister Field.
Coffey and the Red Devils (0-5-0) were able to keep Lake Forest (4-1-0) off the board until Lauren Morford's tally in the 21st minute gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Emily Keast (32:47) and and Courtenay Raymond (33:07) were able to add strikes less than a minute apart later in the half before an own goal (41:25) from the Red Devils pushed Lake Forest to a 4-0 lead shortly before halftime.
After Lake Forest had extended its lead to 5-0, Hailey Schleibinger scored back-to-back insurance goals to set the final score at 7-0.
Coffey made 28 saves on Saturday, easily topping her previous career-best of 20 saves set versus Fontbonne on Sept. 19, 2010. She fell three saves shy of tying the all-time single-match Eureka record held by Amy Funk, who turned aside 31 shots from Monmouth in Eureka's first-ever Division III match on Sept. 1, 2007.
The Red Devils will return to the pitch Sunday when Elmhurst visits Traister Field at 1 p.m.
