NJCU WOMEN'S SOCCER CONTINUES TO CLIMB IN D3SOCCER.COM NATIONAL POLL
JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | For the second consecutive week, the undefeated New Jersey City University women's soccer team has received votes in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll and now the Gothic Knights are on the cusp of a national ranking for the first time.
NJCU, now 8-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, received 31 points in the week three D3soccer.com poll, which was released on September 20.
The number of votes received would be equivalent to a No. 27 national ranking. The 31 points are a program record for most received in a national poll. It's the third time NJCU has received votes in the poll in its history, after scoring seven last week in the week two poll and five points in the October 26, 2010 D3soccer.com Week 8 poll.
Just ahead of NJCU in the poll are the University of Chicago, ranked No. 25 nationally with 51 points, and Transylvania University in Kentucky, which was the only school with more points in the received votes section, scoring 39.
Entering the week, NJCU continues to lead the NJAC in nearly every offensive category, while ranking among the leaders in most defensive areas.
Offensively, NJCU leads the conference in points (93), points per game (11.62), goals (33), goals per game (4.12), assists (27), assists per game (3.38), shots (174) and corner kicks (41) while listing second in shots per game (21.75) and third in corner kicks per game (5.12).
Defensively, NJCU leads the conference with four shutouts in eight games. NJCU is second in shutouts per game (0.50), third in goals against average (0.71) and saves (38), and fourth in saves per game (4.75).
Meanwhile, the Knights have played a mostly clean game this season. NJCU has only averaged 7.75 fouls per game—third lowest in the NJAC—and has only been issued one caution card all year.
