Shaughnessy Sparks Nichols to 3-0 Triumph at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. (Sept. 21) – Senior Chelsea Shaughnessy's two goals and an assist sparked visiting Nichols to a 3-0 win at Becker's Alumni Field on Wednesday evening in a non-conference women's soccer match. The Bison improve to 2-5-0 while the Hawks move to 2-4-1 on the season.
Nichols got on the board 15:26 into the game when Shaughnessy headed a corner kick from graduate student Kaitlyn DiBuono into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Bison added to their lead 9:13 into the second half when Shaughnessy led DiBuono down the right sideline. DiBuono ripped on shot into the top left-hand corner of the net, giving Nichols a commanding 2-0 advantage. Nichols put the game out of reach with 21:44 remaining in the game when Shaughnessy netted her second goal of the game.
Nichols junior goalkeeper Maureen Lynch made two saves, for her fifth career shutout.
Becker rookie keeper Kaitlyn Rose made four saves in net.
The Bison entertain Wentworth on Saturday in a CCC showdown. First kick is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Becker will travel to Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon when they open NECC action at 1:30 p.m.
