No. 17 Transy gets 3-1 road win over Maryville
MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Transylvania freshman Alyssa Kruse tallied a pair of second-half goals in just over a minute Thursday leading the nationally ranked Pioneers to a 3-1 win over Maryville in women's college soccer action.
The Pioneers, ranked 17th in the country, are 6-1 and on a six-match win streak while the Scots are 3-2-2.
Sophomore Amy Ghibaudy (Lexington, Ky., Lex. Catholic) put the Pioneers on the board first with a goal at 18:05. That stood until Maryville converted in the 35th minute. It was the fifth goal of the year for Ghibaudy.
The teams were tied at 1-1 at halftime and Kruse (Lexington, KY, Tates Creek), who has seven goals and three assists on the year, scored at the 74:15 mark off an assist from Elizabeth Schmitt (Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.). Kruse struck again at 75:32 to set the final margin.
Transy had a 15-6 edge in shots and the Pioneers' keeper, Kara Hansel (Florence, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.), had three saves.
Transy opens Heartland Conference play on Saturday with a match at Rose-Hulman.
