Illinois College Stops Eureka, 11-0
EUREKA, Ill. – Illinois College senior midfielder Abby West scored the match-winner in the sixth minute and junior forward Rachel Schuchman netted a hat trick, helping the Lady Blues to an 11-0 non-conference victory over the Eureka College women's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon at Traister Field.
The Lady Blues (4-4-1) struck six times in the first half, all in the first 21 minutes, to build a 6-0 halftime lead. In addition to her match-winner, West added two assists. Jessica Weier, Beth Clarkin and reserve Anna Zimmer each recorded multi-assist performances for the visitors.
Eureka (0-8-0) junior forward Katie McLaughlin (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) put a pair of shots on target and played the full 90 minutes for the Red Devils, while freshman forward Jenna Brooks (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) also attempted a shot on Wednesday. Junior goalkeeper Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) stopped 23 shots on goal from the Lady Blues, a new career-high.
The Red Devils will resume St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Sunday at 1 p.m. against Webster in St. Louis, Mo.
