Mules muster second-half scores to sink Beavers

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College topped the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action this afternoon.
The Beavers (3-3-2) are scheduled to visit Colby-Sawyer College Saturday for a North Atlantic Conference match. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. The Mules improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in non-conference games.

UMF goalkeeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine) played the first half and made seven saves as the teams battled to a 0-0 halftime tie.

Cami Notaro (Bethesda, Md.) scored her second goal of the season about 13 minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie. Notaro came upon a ball in the middle of the field and hit a low, sinking shot that got away from new UMF keeper Crystal Johnson (Cornville, Maine) and went into the right corner of the net.

The Mules added an insurance goal with 19:10 to play on a pretty ball from Maddie Tight (San Rafael, Calif.) to Marissa Simmons (Chestnut Hill, Mass.). Tight won a ball in front of the Colby bench, did a sharp dribble to her left to avoid a defender, and put a perfect cross to Simmons. The senior put a shot in the right corner of the goal for her first tally of the season after leading the Mules in scoring a year ago.

Colby goalkeeper Emily Brook (Duxbury, Mass.) stopped four shots for her third shutout of the season. The Mules had a 30-6 shot advantage and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.

Johnson made six saves in the second half for the Beavers.
